We are delighted – although really not surprised (if we are honest) – that the Obree has been nominated for a British Design Museum’s Design of the Year award. It will sit alongside other distinguished entrants in the transport category.
The broad reach of the competition – including architecture, fashion, graphic, product and digital design – allows for an overview of emerging trends and common themes from across different design disciplines.
With the aim of gathering together a year of cutting-edge innovation and original talent, nominees this year include international design stars such as Zaha Hadid and Miuccia Prada.
Why the Obree?
Naturally, we believe our newest innovation, German designed and produced, is deserving of a nomination alongside the very best in transport design, but this is what the museum had to say:
“The A2B range is the result of engineering innovation and loving attention to detail from this passionate design team based in Berlin. The Obree features regenerative braking, a removable display and a high torque motor to assist the rider up any hill.”
How many nominees are there in the transport category?
We are really proud to be nominated alongside the most creative, leading edge designers of today and to take part in these prestigious awards.
Our fellow competitors are a:
- Light and affordable environmental car designed by the visionary industrial designer Massaud in collaboration with Toyota
- Single seat aircraft, which is not only striking but costs dramatically less to fly
- Folding bike (but no battery, what use is that!)
Who votes – and when will we know who has won?
What’s great about this award is that, alongside a distinguished panel of experts, the public gets a chance to vote too.
All nominees’ designs will be shown in an exhibition at the Design Museum on London’s South bank from 26 March to 25 August 2014 where visitors can see the designs and cast their vote.
If you are in London this summer, go along and vote!
The winner will be announced later this year – so watch this space.
